Have you ever met a couple that just instantly clicked with you as a vendor? The kind of people who are just lighthearted and fun and down to earth and make your job so simple you almost panic because you don’t have to do your normal amount of prep in the weeks leading up to wedding day?
I just had the absolute privilege of photographing a wedding for a couple like that.
Rachel and Everett are clearly found their perfect other halves in each other. They worked as a team on any and all decisions leading up to their big day, and that type of “we are partners now and anything we face we will face together” attitude shone through on their day.
Everett is such a thoughtful man, who (without guidance) chose the perfect day of gift for his new bride. He gifted her a small emerald necklace which 1) matched the bridesmaids dresses perfectly, 2) was gold and matched all of her other jewelry perfectly, and 3) was able to be worn on their wedding day; as she did not plan on wearing a necklace originally.
The families of the bride and groom were both simply beaming as the two mothers shared during the ceremony about their joy in seeing their child find such a wonderful person to marry. The mother of the groom even started her speech with a gentle roast of her own son! (evidently it was her initial opinion that Rachel was way out of Everett’s league. Don’t worry though, she wasn’t.)
The Father of the Bride performed the ceremony, which was unique and special as it was his eldest daughter whose wedding he was officiating.
The private and reserved couple asked the sisters of the groom to perform a song during their private vows, allowing them to step quickly outside onto the stunning back porch of the Mansion at the Hellenic Center to have a moment alone.
For the first time in my career I got to witness a step-father of the groom have the honor of also being his son’s best man. I got to see a groom shed real tears after his dance with his mom. I saw families mesh and support each other in a fierce way. I heard the officiant pronounce that “you may now kiss my daughter.”
The simple elegance of the day combined with the relaxed, gorgeous, fun venue and list of guests made for a completely perfect day. Plus, it was May 26 in New England, we witness a miracle that it was 80 degrees and beautiful sunshine all day! I couldn’t have asked for a more fun wedding to photograph to start off the season.
